Q: Which Technology Enables Emissions To Be Cut
In A Single Process Without The Use of Chemicals?
A: CSNOx™ For Marine
Now you don’t have to go through complex processes or employ chemicals to reduce emissions.
A breakthrough technology, CSNOx™, can help you cut emissions much more safely and efficiently.
CSNOx™ technology treats seawater to make it more alkaline. Seawater treated this way possesses highly absorbent and acid neutralising characteristics. It can effectively remove pollutants and green house gases present in the exhaust of engines/boilers. Gases like SO2, NOx and CO2.
The high alkalinity of the dosing water also means that the water that has been washed will not be acidic at all. You can therefore discharge it without infringing any local or international regulations. Particulate matters washed down in the
process are also separated out as solid waste. They can be disposed in
accordance with current shipboard practices.

A: The CSNOx™ System For Marine
CSNOx™ System increases the pH value and alkalinity of freshwater or seawater without chemicals.
Freshwater or seawater is first fed into the Ultra-Low Frequency Electrolysis System (ULFELS) to make
it alkaline and ready for scrubbing. (Seawater goes through an additional antifouling treatment before
the ULFELS tank to control microbial growth in the system.) The alkaline water is then pumped through
the exhaust stack to scrub the flue gas. (Please refer to Figure 1 for details.) CSNOx™ treated water is
highly reactive and effective in removing CO2, SO2 and NOx through absorption. The removed pollutants
are converted into the harmless substances found naturally in the water. After scrubbing, the scrubbed
water may pass through a solid-liquid separator to remove solid particles. The water recovered will then
undergo an integrated treatment to meet the discharge water standard. If the water supply is limited,
the scrubbed water can be further treated and recycled back to the scrubbing process, reducing the
amount used.

Benefits:
• Costs and footprints are reduced as only one system is
needed to take careof three types of gases, instead of
one systemfor each type of gas.
• Exceed IMO MARPOL Annex VI current and future
requirements on emissions and washed water.
• Net carbon reduction as little power is required to
control emissions.
• No transfer of atmospheric pollution to seawater pollution
as the washed water in the CSNOx™ system is not acidic,
unlike conventional seawater scrubbing.
• No additional CO2 is released into the atmosphere.
There’s no exchange of a pollutant (SO2) for a green
house gas (CO2).
• Easily installed as a retrofit or in new builds.
• No necessity to carry, handle or bunker chemicals. |
